This book tells the story of land and belonging, foreign power and desire, solidarity and silence. The collection, compiled by an Estonian living abroad, Vaim Sarv, maps the changes in regilaup that came with the transition to a modern capitalist society. Between the covers you will find an introductory essay and interviews with actress Anne Türnpu and folklorists and singers Andreas Kalkun and Janika Oras, who illuminate the hidden, physical aspects of regilaup based on both collective singing experiences and archival research. The worlds of thought presented in the book together reflect the potential and importance of regilaup in today's individualistic society. Looking at the heritage of the Baltic Finns through a decolonial and queer feminist prism, the publication explores national romantic and Eurocentric misconceptions of the past and unravels the ways in which bodies, peoples and forms of togetherness that differ from the norm have been called to order. The work is a provocation born of love and a sense of duty towards those ancestors whose voices were heard here.
